Is my home suitable to have a wood burning stove?

Until we have made a visit to your home we simply don't know, we recommend you give us a call on 0800 756 6625 or fill in the contact form to discuss your requirements and we may recommend a FREE home survey. From the survey we will be able to advise on whether your home can have a wood burning stove installed.

A traditional house (properties built before 1965) would almost certainly have a masonry chimney, making the installation of the stove relatively simple, but will certainly require the installation of a new chimney liner for any wood burning stove.

Modern properties (Properties built after 1965) will most likely have terra-cotta or prefabricated chimney liner installed at the time of the build, though designed for open fires in many cases these are suitable for wood burning stoves and the installation of a new chimney liner is not required (particularly if installing a large stove of above 6 kW), some modern homes have been built with pre-cast flues these are designed solely for gas appliances and should never be used with any solid fuel appliance.

More recently ( with cost savings in mind) many builders have opted to build properties without any flue or chimney system at all, but instead relying solely on the central heating leaving the homeowners at the mercy of the gas/oil suppliers. in this case the installation of a new chimney system would be required in this can cost anything from £1200 to £2000, and in more extreme cases it may require the installation of a mechanical fan system.
